Biography
Nienke Altena is PhD Candidate and associate reseacher at NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies. She studied History at the University of Utrecht and Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Amsterdam. At the University of Utrecht she obtained her Master of Education. Since March 2014 she works as an associate researcher at the NIOD on her PhD which focuses on nazification processes in Dutch secondary education during the German occupation. This research is funded by the Leraren promotiebeurs of the NWO.
From 2012-2020 she has been working as a History teacher at the International School of The Hague and she currently teaches History at United World College South East Asia in Singapore.
