Event on New Dutch-Jewish Holocaust Memoir
NIOD and the University of Amsterdam are hosting a lecture and public reading at the Doelenzaal of University of Amsterdam Library on Thursday, May 1st, to mark the occasion of the newly published Holocaust memoir 'The Link in the Chain'.
The memoir, by Judic Wynberg-de Vries, chronicles the survival of a young Dutch Jewish family through the Nazi occupation of Holland from 1940 to 1945. Just days before the 1940 German invasion of the Netherlands, 19-year-old Judic de Vries married Bram Wijnberg, the love of her life. Almost immediately afterward, Judic and Bram and their families had to decide whether to go into hiding. Most didn’t – and were murdered in Nazi death camps – but Judic and Bram did. Together, the couple spent nearly four years in hiding, making countless life-and-death decisions, separated from their families and even their own children. This memoir is their story.
