Dr. Haqmal Daudzai
Biography
Haqmal Daudzai is a researcher focusing on Afghanistan at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies. Currently, he is engaged in the research project "The Netherlands and Afghanistan 2001-2021."
Dr. Daudzai obtained his Ph.D. in 2019 from the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Social Sciences at the University of Erfurt, Germany. His doctoral research concentrated on Afghanistan's state-building efforts subsequent to the US/NATO military intervention in 2001. As a recipient of the DAAD scholarship, he earned his Master of Public Policy and Good Governance degree from the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt. Dr. Daudzai has authored numerous scholarly articles and a book on Afghanistan's politics, governance, and security.
In his co-authored book titled “Glocalized Security: Domestic and External Issues in International Security” (currently under review at the Indiana University Press), Dr. Daudzai delves into the implications of the US/NATO unconditional withdrawal from Afghanistan and its security repercussions in the region.
Prior to his current role, he held various positions within different international development organizations. For instance, until 2022, he served as a Programme Manager for Afghanistan/Pakistan at IPSO International in Berlin. From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Daudzai worked for USAID as a Political Advisor to the Afghanistan National Parliament in Kabul. Moreover, he served as a guest lecturer at Kabul University from 2017 to 2019.
