Leah Niederhausen, MA
Biography
Leah Niederhausen works as researcher at the Expert Centre Restitution. She conducts historical research into the loss of cultural property looted during the Nazi regime. Moreover, she is specialised in the interrelations of material restitution with questions of collective and cultural memories, (transformative) justice, trauma, reparations and philosophy of history in both WWII and colonial contexts.
Leah studied Dutch-German Studies at Münster University (2017-2020) and graduated cum laude from the Research Master Global History at Vrije University Amsterdam (2021-2023). For her thesis "Restitution and Memory. The Past Made Present in Nazi and Colonial Restitution in Germany (1945-2023)" ontving zij de KHMW Jan Brouwer Thesis Award 2023.
