Marieke Maathuis, MA
Biography
Marieke Maathuis is Researcher at the Expert Centre Restitution and works as Programme Assistant for the programme 'The Netherlands and Afghanistan 2001-2021’.
Prior to working at NIOD, Marieke has worked in both the museum and academic worlds in different positions: as collections researcher at the Drents Museum, as management assistant for Utrecht University’s strategic theme Institutions for Open Societies and as junior curator at Museum Catharijneconvent. She combines her job at NIOD with her activities as freelance art historian, currently at RKD-Netherlands Institute for Art History.
Marieke studied Art History at Utrecht University (2014-2017) and obtained her dual master’s degree in Heritage Studies: Curating Art and Cultures (cum laude) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and University of Amsterdam (2017-2019).
